Singing Rating

Cross-platform presence: All of our technological solutions have been customized for specific audio formats, signal degradations and computation capabilities for different platforms - IVR, Android, iOS, Web, and desktop (Mac OS).

Singing rating

Our patented singing evaluation technology is able to assess singing proficiency with incredible depth. Our system compares a user-rendition of a song to the original singer. We use our state-of-the-art proprietary music analysis software to extract an exact high-resolution musical representation of the original singer's rendition of the song, which is used as a benchmark.

Features

  • Credible singing evaluation on multiple musical dimensions
    • Pitch (Sur): Hitting the right note locations with perceptual thresholds on note-pitching accuracy.
    • Modulation (harkat): Most singing genres have several elements of pitch modulation (such as vibratos and glissandos). Indian singing is replete with pitch embellishments and ornaments called harkats/gamaks.
    • Timing (taal): Keeping time with the tempo and singing according to the rhythmic framework of the song.
    • Lyric pronunciation (alfaaz): Pronouncing the lyrics correctly. Our system can also detect users who are only humming or singing nonsense syllables.
    • Falsetto/Vocal effort: Identify if falsetto (head-voice) is being used appropriately and not just as a way of hitting high notes with low vocal effort.
    • Octave change: Singers often change their octave when the notes of the song are out of their comfortable vocal pitch-range. Our system penalizes such changes.
    • Bonus: Extra points are awarded for hitting high/low notes correctly, for breath control, and for hitting tricky notes.
  • Anti-cheat: Users who try to "game" the system by playing back the original sound-track into the microphone can be detected.
  • Analysis and reports: A detailed time-based analysis of the user's performance is generated for review. Specific tips for improvement are provided. For example, if the user is consistently struggling to hit high-notes, the system will recommend a more suitable scale to the user.
  • Real-time visual feedback: Research has shown that visual feedback improves pitch accuracy in singing. During singing, our system displays the user's pitch in real-time, superimposed on the reference melody. User-pitch accuracy is indicated using colour-coded animation. • Rule-based scoring: A modified version of the singing rating system is available, which works without a benchmark of the original singer, but is based on universally accepted rules governing a good musical performance.

Comparison with Competition

There are several services that claim to have a mechanism to rate singing quality. However, our solution actually works! Bad singers get bad scores, Good singers get good scores, Great singers get great scores.

Below are comparisons of our system performance with two competing systems, one for web and one for IVR. In both cases, the same users were asked to sing the same song using the same hardware in the same environment in the competitor's system and our system.

Scoring comparison with competitors
User singing proficiency IVR Web
Audio Competitor Score SensiBol Score Audio Competitor Score SensiBol Score
Rookie 28 33.0 1654 49.7
Amateur 30 57.5 1582 67.2
Professional 25 78.7 1585 87.4

Ours is also the only system in the world that gives independent melody and lyric scores. See examples below

Independent Lyric & Melody scoring
Recording Audio Lyric score Melody score
Good lyric, good melody 74.9 67.1
Bad lyric, good melody 17.3 67.5
